Who we are
Throughout this document, 'we', 'us', 'our' and 'ours' refer to the Statistics Mauritius.

What we collect
We may collect the following information:
- Characteristics of the establishment: Name, address, BRN and VAT number, description of activities, type of ownership and equity participation.
- Employment: Number of persons engaged by gender,
- Expenditure on goods and services including labour cost: Expenses on labour, goods and services used in production (e.g electricity, water and waste water charges, fuel consumed by type and purpose, local and imported raw materials and services)
- Other disbursements: Items required for national accounts other than production account (interest and dividend paid, insurance premiums, CSR expenses, income tax, etc.)
- Receipts : Value of goods and services produced, receipts from contract work and trading activity. Other receipts from interests, dividends, insurance claims, refunds, etc.
- Own Account Research and Development: amount spent on Research and Development undertaken for own use.
- Capital assets: Additions to and sales of assets by type of asset, depreciation and revaluation of assets

What we do with the information we gather
This comprehensive data is collected from enterprises only once every five years and will be used for updating various macro-economic statistics, including the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

How personal information is collected
Your response is required by law and will be kept confidential. Census of Economic Activities is being conducted under the Statistics Act, which makes it legal for SM to carry out the Census and also puts on us the obligation to treat all collected information in strict confidence. Any information which enables identification of individual establishments will not be accessible to any other person or organisation.

Who do we share your information with
SM may disclose information in the form of individual statistical records solely for bona fide research or statistical purposes provided that (a) all identifying information, such as names and addresses, has been removed; and (b) the information is disclosed in a manner that is not likely to enable the identification of the particular person or undertaking or business to which it relates.
Only totals, averages and ratios will be published, so that the particulars of any establishment will NOT be revealed in any way
